Jamie Foxx Celebrates Birthday, Thanks Those Who Prayed “When I Was In a Bad Way” After Medical Complication

"I was able to make it to today because of your prayers," the actor and producer shared in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Jamie Foxx is celebrating his 56th birthday by giving thanks to those who supported him after he was hospitalized following a medical complication earlier this year.

The actor and producer shared a brief message of appreciation on Instagram on Wednesday, calling this birthday “a special one.”

“I wanna start by saying thank you to everyone that prayed for me when I was in a bad way,” he wrote. “I NEEDED EVERY PRAYER… you lifted me through… I was able to make it to today because of your prayers.”

“I consider all of you my family,” he continued. “And thank you to my immediate family, and everybody who chipped in to make sure that I could celebrate on this day.”

Jeremy Renner, who experienced his own medical emergency this year after being run over by a 14,000 pound Snow Cat, sent his own birthday wishes in the replies. “You’re a gift, and I’m so happy you’ve pulled through a test and come out stronger for it @iamjamiefoxx.”

Back in July, Foxx shared his thanks in a three-minute Instagram video, in which he addressed his April hospitilization for the first time publicly. “First of all, I wanna say thank you to everybody that’s prayed, man, and sent me messages,” he said. “I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back.”

In that same video, Foxx was light on details about what happened to him, but described it as “something that I thought I would never ever go through.”

“I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that, man,” he continued. “I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was gonna make it through.”

In April, Foxx was hospitalized for an undisclosed medical issue amid filming Netflix’s Back in Action in Atlanta. At the time, his daughter, Corrine, said that he “experienced a medical complication,” but was “already on his way to recovery.” The actor stepped back from the public eye for several months, missing the premiere for his film They Cloned Tyrone, before he was seen on a yacht waving to passersby.
